Portable Icons

The works presented here are icons that shine -images that carry nothing but the pure power of creation.

Each icon is a creation of authentic Byzantine technique.

The light falls exactly as it did on the day they were created -clear, unfiltered, without history. The colours are vivid and resonant. This clarity in the icon is power. It is the power of the direct encounter, as described by the theologian Evdokimov: an icon is not simply something we look at, but a presence we encounter.

I use exceptional materials that have stood the test of centuries:

• High-quality wood -prepared and stabilised to last for generations
• Gold leaf, applied with a technique that demands an almost priestly reverence -it is not mere decoration, it is a symbol of the divine light.
• The colours – egg tempera, exactly as in Byzantium -are mixed with egg yolk, a symbol of life, rebirth and blessing.
• Finally, the varnish is not only protection -it is a gift to the centuries to come, a way of telling the future generation: “This is sacred. Keep it safe.”

Every icon I create is more than an object -it is a struggle of the soul and a dialogue with tradition.
